"Gold Medal Sunday Awaits You!"
Dear First Church Olympians,
Have you been watching the Olympic highlights from Beijing, China? At their best, the Olympics are a wonderful celebration to the human spirit.
One of the competitors from team USA is a sprinter by the name of Tyson Gay. Tyson was a favorite to win the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and be on the winning 4 x 100 relay team. The Olympics have been a disaster for him. He fell in the Olympic trials and did not even qualify for the 200 meter race. The fall produced an injury which had him perform poorly in the 100 meters, and failed to reach the finals. And then in the 4x100 relay….. he dropped the baton and the US team was disqualified.
His redemption came when he was interviewed after the relay team was disqualified, and he said, “It is not about me, my main focus now has to be on encouraging, supporting and cheering on my teammates.” That is a gold medal quote!
No matter what kind of week you have had, I hope to see you in church on Sunday. It is here that we encourage, support and cheer on our teammates. Not only will you receive this Gold Medal treatment, we need you to give it to others.
As always, I’ll save you a spot in the ‘Holy Place’ Pastor Troy
